Team Zyvax specializes in road racing endurance. Typically, the races last for 4 to 8 hours and will have many pit stops to change tires and add fuel. Team Zyvax has won the championship for the mediumweight (600cc) class for last 2 years on the Yamaha R6. This year we have expanded the program to run two teams. We will continue to run the medium-weight class on the R6, but we are also be competing in the heavyweight (1000cc) class on the Yamaha R1.
The setup of the mediumweight R6 is based on the winning bike used at the Daytona 200. We are using the Graves Motorsports proven package and putting systems in place to maintain that performance for many hours. We have both Dane Wesby and Clinton Seller riding the bikes for use this year. These are two very talented riders who will increase the already great potential of the team. This year we have the possibility of setting a record by being the first mediumweight team to win the overall championship. We have already set a new record by being the first team to average less than a minute lap time for the entire four-hour race. This average included the time for the 5 pit stops made during the race. We will see how far we can go.
Moving to the heavyweight (1000cc) bike brings all kinds of new dynamics to the race. With more horsepower and higher top speeds, you have higher wear on tires and brakes. We also see strain on all moving parts like bearings, sprockets, and chains. Keeping the R1 at peek performance for the many hours it is racing is our challenge. To help us, we have both Ben Bostrom and Chris Clark riding the bike. Their vast experience with all different disciplines of motorcycle racing is a big help in find ways to improve our performance. The Team has performed very well and are currently in first place this season.
