AMA Road Racing June 22 - 24, 2007 | Tooele, Utah Results

Superstock... Ben Bostrom gave his YZF-R1 everything he had in the AMA Superstock race at Miller Motorsports Park on Sunday, June 24 and came up a bit short – just 5.829 seconds behind Ben Spies to be exact. Nonetheless it was Bostrom’s fourth podium finish of the season and the Graves Motorsports rider now holds second place in the points with five races to go in the series.

Bostrom was second to Spies off the line at the start of the 13-lap race at the Tooele, Utah facility. He had another chance at a holeshot after the race was red-flagged for a crash by Jake Holden, but Spies got away first in the restart too. Though Bostrom worked heroically to stay with the leader, he still gave away a few tenths of a second per lap. “We tried very hard to keep up today and I almost put myself on my head in the first few laps,” he admitted afterwards. “The Yamaha R1 is amazing and the team is amazing – we'll just have to do a better job in the next race.”

Any way you look at it, Bostrom turned in an impressive performance on the production Superstock R1. Even with only limited modifications allowed, in qualifying he circulated the Miller road course just 1.2 seconds behind the pace of the highly modified Superbike of his brother Eric. But the Graves Motorsports team won’t stop there. “We’re constantly making improvements but it’s a new machine and there’s not a lot of things we can do on it,” said team owner Chuck Graves. “But we’re getting closer to the front every weekend.”
