The Graves Motorsports duo of Brandon Currie and Mark Burkhart inched closer to claiming a pair of titles for Yamaha by scoring podium finishes at the eighth round of the 2007 AMA Supermoto Championship in Galveston, TX. on Saturday, November 3. Currie finished a solid second on his YZ250F in Supermoto Lites, while Burkhart grabbed a close third in the Supermoto class on his YZ450F. Heading into the season-ending doubleheader in Cabazon, CA. on November 10-11, Currie leads David Pingree by 21 points in Supermoto Lites, while Burkhart leads Jeff Ward by 17 points in Supermoto. Adding huge fan appeal for Yamaha will be 2004 X Games gold medalist Ben Bostrom, who is scheduled to contest the final two rounds on another Graves Motorsports YZ450F.
Supermoto... When the Supermoto riders blasted off the line for their 20-lap battle, Burkhart and Ward went into the first turn elbow to elbow. Ward had the inside line and took the early lead, while Burkhart got hit by another rider and slipped to fourth. In mid-race though, Ward’s gearbox malfunctioned, dropping him to 15th place and allowing Burkhart a big points advantage with his podium finish. “When we get to California I’m going to keep on going with what I’ve been doing, which is riding smart and going fast,” Burkhart promised. Team manager Patrick Stevenson added, “We have won a lot of races this year and we really don’t need to win the next two – just the championships!”
