AMA Road Racing April 20 - 22, 2007 | Birmingham, AL Results

Supersport...16-year-old Josh Herrin flew his Graves Motorsports YZF-R6 to a terrific second in the AMA Supersport race at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL on Sunday, April 22.

Herrin qualified 14th for his first AMA Supersport race at the Barber facility. But he aggressively worked his way through the field, passing 12 riders to move into second by the eighth of 17 laps, and then vigorously defended the position from Daytona 200 winner Steve Rapp. It was Herrin’s best AMA Supersport finish and a huge confidence booster for the young racer.

“You have no idea how much I wanted to get up there and it’s just insane how good it feels,” he grinned afterwards. “The R6 is a phenomenal bike – it’s unbelievable how much power it has.”

Superstock... In the AMA Superstock race, Ben Bostrom chose a soft-compound rear tire to match the cool conditions he expected at race time. At first the strategy worked brilliantly as Bostrom held second place behind Aaron Yates. But warming track conditions soon proved too much for the soft rubber, and it was all Bostrom could do to maintain third behind Yates and Jake Holden for the last half of the 17-lap event.

“The bike was able to win but the rider chose the wrong tire,” he lamented later. “I was bound and determined to win, but after the tire went away it was kind of hard to hang on. But I love the new R1 and I know it’s going to win!”
