AMA Supermoto May 19, 2007 | St. Louis, MO Results

Supermoto Lites... Graves Motorsports racer Brandon Currie stormed to a convincing win aboard his Yamaha YZ250F in the opening round of the 2007 Supermoto Lites Championship in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, May 19. The win proved a great start to the season, but also a nice validation for testing the team conducted prior to the event – and for the 2007 YZ250F, which Team Manager Patrick Stevenson highly complimented for its Supermoto capabilities.

The course at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater proved challenging for its coarse, wavy asphalt, and Currie took command immediately by winning his qualifying heat race. But when the Lites main started David Pingree took the lead, with Currie hounding him for 10 laps and looking for a way past. The race’s deciding moment came when Currie swept around Pingree in the dirt section and Pingree crashed, and then had trouble re-starting his bike. Ironically Currie then also fell after noticing his competitor struggling, but he was able to keep his YZ running and quickly resumed the race to post a comfortable nine-second margin of victory.

“The bike has come a long way from last year, and now I have the confidence I can run up front and win,” Currie explained. “After starting on a good note, now I want to carry the momentum forward and hopefully win the championship.” He dedicated the win to teammate Doug Henry, who is recovering from spinal injuries suffered in a preseason crash. “Doug was tracking the race from his computer,” Currie added. “He’s still enthused about the team and always wants to know what’s going on.”
