The Graves Motorsports duo of Mark Burkhart and Brandon Currie decisively won both the Supermoto and Supermoto Lites races at the seventh round of the 2007 Supermoto Championship in Redmond, OR on Saturday, September 29. The wins secure both Yamaha riders at the top of their respective points standings with three rounds remaining in the season. Burkhart holds a slender three-point advantage over title rival Jeff Ward, and Currie is 19 points ahead of rival David Pingree, who crashed hard and broke an arm and both wrists.
Supermoto... The track at the Deschutes County Expo Center featured the most dirt of any AMA Supermoto track this season – about a third of every lap, including an exciting arenacross-type section inside the rodeo ring. After leading every practice session and qualifying on the pole, Burkhart led every lap to win his fifth race of the year aboard his YZ450F.
“Mark’s success is a combination of several things,” explained team manager Chuck Graves. “Our Yamaha team has evolved and we’re working better together at finding the right settings. Mark has always been lightning fast, but now he has found the maturity to be consistently fast – and has really learned how to win.”

Supermoto Lites... In the Lites race Currie launched his YZ250F off the line behind Pingree but played it safe in slippery conditions as the field entered the arena. Unfortunately, Pingree charged in hard and high-sided his bike just partway into the first lap. His misfortune allowed Currie a relatively easy race, and he also led every lap to take the win.
“The YZ250F motor is really good and we were getting a lot of drive out of the corners,” he commented afterwards. “I also think the Yamaha has better top end power than all the other bikes out there.”
