On Sunday, Doug Henry’s amazing career gleamed even
brighter as he won his first X Games Super Moto gold medal at the 11th
annual X Games, held August 5-7 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. On an
exciting track featuring asphalt, Supercross-style dirt and a
breathtaking super-jump, the Graves Motorsports YZ450F-mounted veteran
beat McGrath, Chad Reed and 18 others in an exciting 40-lap race that
featured a mandatory pit stop for tires and fuel. Aboard another YZ450F,
Reed grabbed the holeshot and led before Henry passed him on lap six.
Henry lost the lead when he pitted on lap 25, but regained control when
other riders pitted and pulled out an 11.4-second lead over McGrath and
Reed at the finish. "This is quite an event," Henry said afterwards. "I
really love it."
Yamaha Racing Division Manager Keith McCarty added, "I can’t say enough
about the Graves Motorsports crew and the factory Yamaha mechanics. They
all did a fabulous job and everything came together like we wanted it
to."
