For Immediate Release:
Sonoma, CA 5/15/05
It was a thrill a minute at Infineon raceway in Sonoma,
California as Team Graves Yamaha’s riders fought battles up and down the
field and finished with two podium positions.
Jason DiSalvo again demonstrated his amazing qualifying prowess clicking
off a time of 1:36.91, eight tenths of a second clear of the next
fastest rider. Teammates Hacking, Buckmaster and Gobert filled out the
even positions on the front two rows, in fourth, sixth, and eighth
respectively. The Superstock class is the scene of perhaps the fiercest
competition in AMA racing, with second through ninth positions on the
grid all qualifying within the same second. DiSalvo’s Pole time would
have again placed him second on the Superbike grid.
The race was a thriller, with DiSalvo jumping out to the
early lead with Yates in pursuit. Hacking had two riders to pass before
he could join the chase and make it a three-rider contest. The lead was
hotly contested with each of the three riders taking to the grass at one
point or another, as they pushed the envelope under braking. DiSalvo led
the first thirteen of seventeen laps, before giving way to Yates.
Hacking then passed the both of them to lead laps fourteen and fifteen.
Yates was able to lead the two most important laps, however, and
Hacking’s attacks in the final laps were not enough to deny Yates the
victory.
The Yamaha R-1 still leads the championship chase with
Jason DiSalvo atop the charts with 126 points. Second is Aaron Yates
with 121, only a point ahead of Yamaha’s Jamie Hacking with 120.
Stay tuned at the team heads to Pike’s Peak in Colorado for the next
race on May 21st and 22nd.
